The Lake Chelan AVA has come a long way since its inception in 2009. Wineries and vineyards have raised the bar with their drive to evolve and show the world how unique the Lake Chelan Wine Valley is. The terroir of the Lake Chelan AVA offers vineyards to grow a vast selection of varietals; everything from Gewurztraminer to Syrah can be found here.
There is one varietal that has yet to emerge from the Lake Chelan AVA, until now. Tsillan Cellars has produced not only their first vintage of Dolcetto, but the valley’s first ever vintage of this Italian varietal. The Piedmont region of Italy is home to several appellations dedicated exclusively to Dolcetto. This red-wine grape produces wine with a soft, fruity, and smooth profile. Similar varietals include Barbera and Nebbiolo.
A release date for the Dolcetto has yet to be decided, but guests will get the first taste of the Dolcetto at the October Winemaker Dinner on October 18th. The five course, wine-paired dinner will be highlighting traditional dishes from the Piedmont region of Italy, and what better wine to pair alongside the courses than Dolcetto.
