Another favorite winery and dining hub is that of Tsillan Cellars – owned and operated by a very charismatic and hospitable Dr. Bob Jankelson. A self-professed “romantic,” Jankelson’s personal philosophy embraces the people and the small things that make life memorable. Of course, one of his self-expressions of his life view is making wine, so the entire winery was born from his vision to share something that was special to him.

Tsillan Cellars is an Italian country retreat recreated on the gently sloping shores of Lake Chelan, mirroring the beauty and serenity of Italy’s Lake Como. Tsillan Cellars’ lush venue features cascading waterfalls, expansive terrazzos, gardens, dramatic Italian architecture, an elegant indoor and outdoor pavilion, and of course, a wedding gazebo overlooking Lake Chelan and the Cascade Mountains.

The 135-acre estate has almost 40 acres planted as vineyards. Attention to the area’s viticulture techniques has produced numerous award-winning estate grown wines known for their quality and value, now reaping more than 400 gold and platinum awards.

After spending time teaching across Italy, Jankelson holds “la dolce vita” – the sweet life – very near and dear. As a result, he welcomes guests in not only for conversation over long-stemmed glasses of Syrah, but also Sorrento’s Ristorante.

Named one of the Top Scenic View Restaurants in America by OpenTable diners among a list of more than five million reviews and 19,000 restaurants in all 50 states, Jankelson admits that the food of Italy captured him before he developed his interest in wine.

The same meticulous attention to detail is evident in Tsillan Cellars’ stunning Italian architecture and grounds transfers to a kitchen that brings world-class dining to the shores of Lake Chelan. In autumn and winter, an inviting Italian fireplace, panoramic views of Lake Chelan and snow-clad mountains blend with dishes of lemony pan-seared scallops, copious amounts of fresh caprese, spicy sausage ravioli showered in mozzarella and plenty of room for butterscotch-infused desserts and Italian-inspired sorbets.
